About the Style Files

How to Download and Use the Abbreviation File
If you use Endnote to format references for a publication, you
know that hardly any of our journals are in the Style pulldown. Well,
here are some of the main ones. There's also a file of abbreviations
for over 100 of our journals. You will need to use this file in
conjunction with the styles to get the correctly abbreviated or full
citation.
About the
Style Files
All styles have the main document types (journal article,
book, book chapter). Some styles have a few other types, which may
not be in the exact style of the journal. Here are the
styles:
How to
Download and Use the Style Files
These instructions are for Endnote 3. They will probably work
for Endnote 2.
|
PC
|
- Click archive.exe to
download a self-extracting compressed file of the journal
styles.
- Save the archive.exe file to a new folder called
Sport Science. Create the folder within the Styles folder
in the Endnote folder.
- Find the archive.exe file via the desktop or Explore
window, and run it.
- Delete the archive.exe file.
- Open your favorite library in Endnote, go to
Styles/Set Styles Folder..., open the new folder,
then select the style you want.

|
Mac
|
- Click archive.sit to
download a self-extracting compressed file of the journal
styles.
- If your browser extracts the files automatically, you
will get the archive.sit file and a decompressed Archive
Folder on your desktop.
- If your browser does not extract the files, save
archive.sit to the desktop, then drag it onto Stuffit
Expander. You'll find it somewhere in your browser
folder, or get the latest for free from the Aladdin
site.
- Rename the Archive Folder to Sport Science.
- Find and open the Endnote folder in your applications
folder, and open the Styles folder.
- Drag the Sport Science folder into the Styles
folder.
- Trash archive.sit.
- Open your favorite library in Endnote, go to
Styles/Set Styles Folder..., open the Sport
Science folder, then select the style you want.

How to
Download and Use the Abbreviation File
These instructions are for Endnote 3. They don't work for
Endnote 2, but there's probably a way to use the file of
abbreviations for Endnote 2.
- Right-click or option-click this file
of abbreviations and Save Link As...
- In the Save window, find the folder with the
Endnote program/application, and open it.
- Save the abbreviation document in that folder.
- Open your favorite library of Endnote references, go
to Terms/Open List..., and open
Journals.
- Go to Terms/Import List... and select the
abbreviations file you just downloaded.
- Repeat 4 and 5 for any other library that you want to
use for making formatted reference lists.
